Personality: (Long Description)
Zane is a true farm dog through and through.
He cares for everyone, especially his people.
He is strong and tough, being raised herding cattle, hunting wild boars, and climbing tall trees to catch the best prey.
Zane loves to run around and has nearly unending energy, yet knows when to be serious.
Past ways and his training have left him with a tough outer shell. He is bold and strong, a leader; yet still just a goofy puppy when it comes to others that he knows well.
Zane has bad allergies and you will often find his sniffing, snorting, coughing, or sneezing.
He tries to control this though, and does a pretty good job at it.
As long as you don't surround him by flowers.
His territory was a huge farm and ranch where he roamed freely. His bed was a mattress on the porch and he spent most of his time outside.
Through rain, snow, and even hail he always preferred to stay outside rather then in with his people.
But every now and again he went in to sleep and stay with them.
To keep them safe of course.
Not because he was a big softy or anything.
He is as loyal and honest as they get.
Although he is tough he can have a very gentle heart when he wants to.

Zane is a very pretty catahoula.
It sounds strange to call a guy pretty, but that's exactly what he is. And he's proud of it.
He is a blue and ghost double merle.
Merle is another word for the leopard pattern that his breed has. A blue merle is a catahoula with merle in the shades of black, grey, and blueish. A ghost or phantom merle is a dog with the merle gene but their pelts are white with only a whisker's trace of merle if none at all.
A double merle is a dog who's parents both had the merle gene. Therefore a double merle may have both of the types their parents have.
Right now he is still considered the age of a puppy and his patterns are all light. A light grey speckles with black covers most of his body while his entire underside is white.
Zane has a strip of white coming up from his belly and making a stripe through his merle all the way to the other side of his body.
Right now that marking is a bit light, as is the rest of his body, but when he grows older his colors will darken. His white will brighten and he will form another white stripe around his chest.
When his merle darkens the edges of it will be sharp and the darker specks inside of it will be more vividly sticking out.
The area that is currently grey will shift and change as it does in most catahoulas.
Zane wears a thick bright orange collar.
He has webbed toes that make him a great swimmer.
His left eye is a very dark, deep brown. A normal color for his breed.
And Zane's right eye is a light blueish white.
It's a glass eye.
A term used to describe an eye of this color in a catahoula.
Many catahoulas have one or two glass eyes, and maybe even a cracked glass eye, also known as a cut glass eye.
A cracked glass eye is when the iris is mostly a glass eye with a fraction of a different color in it, usually brown. The colors could also be vise versa, with mostly brown and a crack of glassy blue.
Zane, however, has a full glass eye and not a cracked one.
Sometimes glass eyes are blind, but his is not. That is a good thing. If he was blind he would be useless.
Many double merles are also deaf. He is not. His ears are actually quite sensitive and he can't stand loud noises.

History:

Zane was born by mistake. Or at least that's what he calls it.
Hunting dog breeders.
Since glass eyes can mean blind eyes, and sense he had the potential to be deaf, he was the unwanted one.
No one wants to hunt with a blind or deaf dog.
What were they to do with the puppy that wouldn't sell?
Abandon him, of course.
In the middle of the woods.
With no hope.
And not only that, but tied to a tree.
Tied to a tree!
Even if he found some miraculous way to live in the woods by himself before even weaning age, it would never happen.
Because he was limited to a few yards of space.
Tied to a tree.
He didn't understand that he was being abandoned at the time. So of course he was sad at first wondering why his people left him. He finally assumed that they were going to come right back.
So he optimistically sat there wagging and waiting.
But they never came.
Days later he had finally decided to go find them by himself.
He tugged as hard as he could, but it choked him.
He gnawed on the chain, but it was hopeless.
He tried eating grass and dirt and whatever he could find because he was hungry.
And he was found almost dead by more humans.
Nice humans.
They nursed him to health at a catahoula rescue center.
And he soon got adopted by a nice younger couple of people who lived on a ranch, a farm.
He lived with them for six months.
Learning to hunt, to herd, to swim, to climb, to jump. He even learned how to be a good family companion.
That all ended when a delivery man came by.
Zane had jumped in the back of his truck while the man was inside with Zane's people.
And he got trapped when the man came back and closed him in.
He fell asleep in a thick plastic box that happened to be filled with an order of food and ice.
His box got put on a big cargo boat.
And was soon sailing across the sea.
He broke out of his box and jumped out of the boat when he saw land.
And swam to the island he saw.
That's where he lives now, with his new pack.
Though he will never stop dreaming of getting back to his owners he is almost certain there is no way.
