Tarlio didn't reply. The silence between the two seemed to stretch out for hours. What am I going to say to that? "Why don't I go hunting. I'm hungry."

" Ok, I'll stay here I guess." she replied a little offended by his quietness. She got up, she quickly found some sticks and she began to make a fire.

Tarlio left the she-wolf to go hunting. It wasn't long before he picked up the scent of some sort of bird. He followed it until he reached a clearing where a small flock of white grouse, eight of them all together, were pecking stupidly at the ground.
The timber wolf fell into a crouch position and began to stalk forward. When he was in close range, Tarlio leaped forward and caught one bird between his jaws, sending the others flapping upwards in a flurry of squawks and feathers.
Tarlio returned to Red, a limp grouse between his jaws. "This was all I could find," the timber wolf told her, "you have it. I'll hunt for myself later."

Tarlio was going to call her back, but she was gone in a flashe. He lay down and began to chew on the meat of the bird.

She looked to her side at a buck who wasn't paying attention. She flung her weight at its back legs, it fell forward and its legs snapped loudly. She pinned it and bit a huge chunk of its neck out. She bit another chunk out, she tried to ignore its large antlers right above her head, but it was dead already. Red dragged it away and back to the temporary den. She began to chew at the leg meat, her favorite spot.

Tarlio watched Red out of the corner of his eye. She had always been a fine hunter, even when they had been cubs chasing leaves and insects and other small creatures, she had always been better at it than him.
All these memories, though innocent and pleasant, were hard to deal with for the loner. It reminded him of the loving and beautiful home that had been taken from him.
After a long while of silence, Tarlio finally spoke. "So what are we going to do now?" He sighed.

Her eyes looked up at Tarlio.

Tarlio smiled at her, "Alright. We'll head to the west, seek the pack over there."
The loner looked up at the sky. It was late at night now, and the stars shone brightly in the clear, inky black sky. "We'll rest here for tonight and start moving in the morning."

" Ok" she barked. She laid down and put her head on her paws. Red's eyes began to close some.

Tarlio didn't feel like sleeping. He decided to stay up and keep watch as Red drifted off to sleep.
